Our Process

Every piece from Snake River Turnings starts as a piece of wood and ends up as something you can set on a shelf, a desk or a table. Here is how that works.

The wood

We work with woods such as flame box elder maple, apricot, elm, poplar, walnut, alder, mountain ash and Kenai birch from Alaska. Each piece is named for its wood on the product page, so you know what you are getting.

Turned on a lathe

Spheres, obelisks, spires, pyramids, hollow forms and bowls are shaped by hand on a lathe in Idaho. Some pieces, like the jewelry boxes, are put together by hand.

Left natural

Natural cracks, grain patterns and color variations are part of the wood, and we leave them visible instead of hiding them. That is why no two pieces are alike.

Finished by hand

Pieces are finished with Tru-Oil, Tried and True varnish oil (linseed oil and natural resins), friction polish or shellac. The finish for each piece is listed on its product page.

The piece you see is the piece you get

Every piece is one of a kind, and the photos show the actual piece. When one sells, it is gone, so buy when you can. Shipping is free anywhere in the United States.
